The Olu of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, has thrown his weight behind the second term bid of Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, saying Yewaland was not in a hurry to produce the next governor in 2023.
The monarch urged the governor not to be afraid of any move against his second term bid from his area, saying the people of the area have decided to support his second term bid.
The monarch stated this on Sunday during the installation of former Deputy Governor of the state, Salmot Badru. as the Iya Adeen of Ogun State.
The Ogun west which comprises Yeww and Awori had not produced a governor since the creation of the state in 1976.
Oba Olugbenle while delivering his goodwill message at the event organised by the League of Imams and Alfas in the state, said those who were contesting against Abiodun’s second term bid did not consult him before they threw their hats into the ring.
He said, “It has not come to our turn. We are not in a hurry to produce the governor in this coming election. We are supporting Governor Dapo Abiodun and I want to tell you Mr Governor that you should not be afraid.
“We are not aware of their political move. Don’t be afraid, we are supporting your second term. I will beg my people in Ijebu and Egbaland to support me in the 2027 election.”
The former Deputy Governor and the Iyalode of Yorubaland, Iyalode Alaba Lawson, also openly declared his support for the governor’s second term bid.
In her acceptance speech, Badru said there was no vacancy in Oke-Mosan in 2023 and that the people in Yewa and other parts of the state have resolved to vote for Abiodun during next year’s election.
Badru said, “One good turn deserves another. Governor Abiodun has done well and he is going to be rewarded with a second term election.”
