Men of the Rapid Response Squad have been deployed on the Long Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The deployment was ordered by the Commander, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, as part of follow-up routine patrol of the area aimed at complementing the efforts of other police units and reinforcing security around the area.
This was disclosed in a terse statement which read, “Commander RRS, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi has deployed officers to inward and outward Ogun State Long Bridge as part of follow up routine patrol of the area aimed at complementing the efforts of other police units and reinforce security around the area.”
PUNCH Metro had reported that the section of the expressway had become attractive to miscreants who usually robbed motorists in the early hours of the day due to the traffic caused by the ongoing reconstruction of the road.
The section of the road had last week been visited by the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, after which a ban on hawking was enforced.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Police Command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the miscreants were disguising as hawkers to rob motorists.
