Undercover cops intercepted two gunrunners at Zuba Motor Park, Abuja, Wednesday night.
Our correspondent gathered that the suspects, Uzo Onovo and Micheal Nwude, both residents of Zuba, were found with six brand new Pump Action riffles, and 25 cartridges being transported from Anambra to Kano State through Abuja.
A source within the Federal Capital Territory Police Command confirmed to our correspondent that the suspect arrived at a roadside park near a filling station formerly known as Dan-Kogi in the town at about 2 pm on Wednesday in search of a Kano-bound vehicle.
The source said, “Then, the man handed a wrapped carton with a phone contact attached to it as the one who would receive the delivery in Kano after meeting the driver who was loading at the time.”
The source added that the suspect did not hesitate to pay the N10,000 which they were charged for the goods, leading the driver to be suspicious, thereby requesting that they unwrapped the goods.
The suspect in the process attempted to flee but was apprehended by the undercover cops at the motor park.
The suspects were apprehended after the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Zuba, Osor Moses, reinforced policemen to the park after getting a call from the undercover cops.
Confirming the incident to our correspondent, the FCT Police Spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, noted that the suspects were currently in police custody as investigation continued.
Adeh said, “Both suspects are currently in our custody while we continue investigation to apprehend others within their network.”
