The Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, has sympathised with the members of the correspondents’ chapel in the state over the fire incident at its office located opposite the Custodial Centre.
Represented by the Secretary to the Gombe State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Njodi, the governor lamented the loss of property at the Association’s office.
Our correspondent reports that the fire incident which started on Sunday also affected the storehouse of the State Library Board, destroying printed materials in the process.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya, who describe the incident as an act of God maintained that the State Government was deeply saddened on receiving the news of the fire incident.
He said, “the State Government, through the Ministry of Information, will look into the possibility of relocating the office to give members of the correspondents’ chapel a conducive environment to function.”
He added that the state government was concerned about the wellbeing, security and safety of journalists in the state, hence the visit to commiserate.
Responding, the chairperson of the chapel, Hajara Leman, lauded the governor’s visit, adding that members were encouraged by the government’s show of concern.
She disclosed that the state office of the correspondents’ chapel lost some valuable assets to the fire incident.
“Working tools, including office equipment like air conditioners, ceiling fans, stabilisers, two flat screen televisions, bus tyres and other valuables were stolen before this fire incident,” she said.
