The Lagos State Government has called on students of the Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board to contribute to the development of their communities through their acquired skills.
The Executive Secretary of LASTVEB, Moronke Azeez, made this call, according to a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday, during the commemoration of the 2022 International Youth Day in Lagos.
She said, “The theme for 2022 International Youth Day is ‘Intergenerational solidarity: Creating a world for all ages,’ and this year’s objective is to amplify the message that action is needed across all generations to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and leave no one behind.
“Students of LASTVEB should continue to give back to society by using their technical skills to carry out maintenance and repair works on certain public utilities within their communities.
“For LASTVEB, our community development activities were geared towards advocating for the importance of technical education in achieving the SDG four, five, and eight in the state and to celebrate the potential of the technical college students as partners in creating the needed change in today’s global society.
“The students of Government Technical College, Ikorodu carried out various maintenance works at the FIAT Missionary Children’s Home, Igbogbo. They re-painted the interior and exterior walls and installed a new wash hand basin, water cistern, and shower and also repaired the broken pumping machine.”
The Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Sotobi, was quoted as commending the students’ initiative of giving back to the community through the skills they have acquired.
“I want to assure you of my continued support by ensuring that details of enrolment into the college are widely publicised across Ikorodu,” he said.
