The Lagos State Government has said its partnership with WaterAid Nigeria will enable residents of Ikorodu to have access to a potable water supply.
According to a statement on Tuesday, the Executive Secretary of LASWARCO, Mrs Funke Adepoju, stated this during an assessment visit to Ikorodu and Ota-Ona Mini Waterworks in the company of representatives of WaterAid Nigeria in Ikorodu.
She said, “As a response to government’s call to action for support to its water sector, WaterAid Nigeria, in collaboration with LASWARCO is championing a co-creation to be able to support a proposal to development funding institutions. In this case, this would be a pilot project to improve access to drinking water through the rehabilitation of the Lagos Road Ikorodu and Ota-Ona Mini Waterworks in Ikorodu.
“The evaluation visit to the mini waterworks in Ikorodu gives the commission the opportunity to identify what should be put in place to ensure that the water plants operate at installed capacity because the desire of the state government is to ensure that the people of Ikorodu and environs enjoy improved access to potable water.”
The Water Sanitation and Hygiene Manager, WaterAid Nigeria, John Nwanmo, explained that the partnership with the state government will facilitate improved service delivery in the water sector.
“WaterAid Nigeria is taking over the rehabilitation of one of the 48 mini water works/schemes in the state as a pilot to demonstrate that Lagosians can have sufficient water supply and also attract more private investment into the state’s water sector,” he said.
