The Nigeria Customs Service has seized 724 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 149 kegs of 25 litres of Petroleum Motor Spirit, and other items with Duty Paid Value of N229m between July and August, 2022.
This was contained in a statement on Thursday by the Public Relations Officer, in charge of Federal Operations Unit, Zone B, Kaduna, Mailafiya Magaji.
In the statement, the Customs Area Controller of the unit, Albashir Hamisu, said that the units also handed over 90 parcels of Indian Hemp, 135 sacks of expired foreign milk powder with 31 cartons of unregistered pharmaceutical products to National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control.
The statement read in part, “Prominent among the seizures made by the Unit is 724 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 149 kegs of 25 litres of petrol and diesel, 227 cartons of foreign spaghetti and couscous, 191 sacks of foreign secondhand clothing and 16 units of used vehicles. We are also handing over 90 parcels of Indian Hemp, 135 sacks of expired foreign milk powder with 31 cartons of unregistered pharmaceutical products to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control respectively for further investigation.”
In the statement, Hamisu, said that a total of 117 seizures were made in the unit within the period under review.
“Contraband items which also included 50 kegs of 25 litres size foreign vegetable oil, 30 bags of foreign fertilizer, 25 sacks of foreign shoes, 33 cartons of foreign milky creamer and 7 sacks of foreign tiger nuts amongst others were seized”
He attributed his Unit’s successes to information volunteered by patriotic Nigerians, inter-agency synergy and effective performance management.
In their separate responses the representative of Commander the NDLEA, Ali Kubau, and State coordinator, NAFDAC, Mr Nasir Mato in their submissions, appreciated the inter-agency synergy that existed between Nigeria Customs and other agencies.
