About 300 delegates are expected to elect new leaders who will steer the affairs of the National Association of Nigerian Students for the next one year.
The delegates comprise of student leaders in government-owned universities, polytechnics and colleges of education across the state of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
A total of 16 positions will be contested at the convention holding on Saturday in Abuja.
This consists of 12 executive positions and four legislative positions.
Although, a total of 14 candidates are contesting the position of the national president, observers are projecting that the election will be a straight battle between four candidates.
These candidates are; Gambo Mohammed, Usman Kankia, Umar Faruk and Usman Barambu.
Of the four, observers said contenders from the North-West (Zone A) will likely emerge.
Speaking with our correspondent on Friday, a former NANS JCC chairman, Osun Axis, Abosede Safety, said based on permutations on the ground, political party which the candidates were sympathetic to might play a huge role in who would emerge the winner.
He said, “One unique thing about this election is that six zones will participate unlike in the previous elections.”
Formerly, it was just four Zones A – D, but the current President, Sunday Asefon amended the constitution and made it six.”
The four leading aspirants were formerly zonal leaders, among them, we will definitely have a President and probably a factional president.
Umar Faruk popular known Fakky is flying the ticket of Bayero University in Kano, he was former Zone A coordinator; Gambo Mohammed and Usman Kankia are flying tickets of Ahmadu Bello University.
