Human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong has been released after Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Ekaette Obot, sentenced him to 30 days imprisonment on 27 July, for alleged contempt of court after he objected to the presence of two armed police operatives inside the courtroom.
Journalist and Presidential Candidate, Omoyele Sowore annnounced the release of Mr Effiong on Friday August 26.

Inibehe Effiong has been released from unjust imprisonment in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state
Effiong was released from prison at around 8 a.m. to a waiting crowd of supporters outside the yard.
Speaking to reporters, the Human rights Lawyer said it was an honour to be imprisoned for the truth.
“I consider it an honour for me to be incarcerated for the truth,” Mr Effiong told reporters and supporters.
He added that his incarceration has strengthened his resolve to fight for truth and justice in Nigeria.
“This voice, till no end, is now louder,” he said.
