The National Association of Nigerian Students has declared that Adeyemi Abiodun, a recently convicted student of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, is not its executive member at any level.
It was earlier reported that Abiodun, a student of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, who claimed to be the Director of Logistics of the Oye-Ekiti chapter of NANS was taken to the Oyo State High Court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission recently.
He was arrested in March with a NANS number plate.
Abiodun was eventually convicted and sentenced to one-year imprisonment for internet-related fraud.
He was arrested alongside 79 others and was convicted on Wednesday.
But NANS President, Asefon Adedayo, lamented that some students and persons had begun using the NANS number plate as a cover for illicit and illegal dealings.
Asefon, who spoke with Saturday PUNCH, in a telephone interview, on Thursday, said he had made this known to the Nigeria Police, stating that he would reveal their collaborators who provided cover for them.
The NANS president said, “He is not a NANS executive. I have made it known; it is not today that we have bad eggs within us. There are people who are giving them the number plates and we will unveil their names soon.
“As I speak to you and as a President of NANS, that guy is never an exco of NANS at the level of the state, the zone or at the national level. So, he is not known to us as an exco of NANS.”
