The Proprietor of Maureen Mmadu women’s football team and former Super Falcons player, Maureen Mmadu is seeking the sum of N10m for the U-16 female football tourney taking place in Morocco.
The former international said it is very important for the team to participate in the tournament, which will hold in two weeks, to give the girls exposure and help them showcase their talents.
She added that she had spent over N10m in procuring visas and other logistics for the team.
She disclosed this to journalists in Onitsha, Anambra State, while lamenting that similar visa palaver and lack of funds had stalled the team from flying to Denmark for an international football tournament a few months ago.
She, therefore, appealed to sports lovers and philanthropists, both from governmental and non-governmental organisations to assist the team to complete the payment of their visa fees, having already deposited a part payment of about N5 million for the Moroccan visa, remaining a balance of N5 million, excluding flight ticket, feeding and hotel accommodation for both the players and officials of the team for the period the tournament would last in Morocco.
Specifically, Mmadu appealed to Anambra State Ministry of Youths and Sports, the Nigerian Football Federation, and all lovers of sports nationwide not to allow these talented girls to fail to embark on this all important Morocco trip merely because of lack of funds.
“I am comfortable in my base in Norway but I am not comfortable that these talents which I fought very hard to discover should be denied the necessary exposure they require to grow as big time footballers by failing to fly them to Morocco for the tournament because of money having failed to fly to Denmark in the recent time because of visa denial,” she added.
