Real Sociedad have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Umar Sadiq following the withdrawal of Villarreal, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Villarreal were in the hunt for the striker but has been priced out of a move to sign the lanky striker.
Sadiq has been in a rich vein of form for Almeria, scoring two goals in three LaLiga games since the Andalusian club gained promotion back to the elite division, and Sociedad see him as an ideal replacement for striker Alexander Isak, who joined Newcastle United for a club-record £60m fee last week.
According to Transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, discussions are ongoing between both clubs and they are hopeful a deal could be struck before the summer transfer closes on Thursday at 11pm.
“Real Sociedad are pushing to sign Sadiq from Almería,” Romano tweeted.
“Talks in progress, hopeful to get it done — after deal collapsed with Villarreal. He’s the main option considered to replace Alexander Isak.”
With a reported €30m price tag, Sadiq has enjoyed a long and well-traveled career and has thrived since joining Almeria in the summer of 2020.
He’s contributed 43 goals and 19 assists in 84 appearances across all competitions for the Andalusian outfit and earned seven caps for his country during his time with the Spaniards.
