The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka, and the All Progressives Congress have mourned the immediate past spokesman for the state police command, Nnamdi Omoni, who died on Tuesday.
Omoni was a Superintendent of Police and the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Elimgbu Police Station in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state before his passing.
Eboka, in a statement issued by the state command’s Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, said Omoni passed on at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, Port Harcourt.
The statement, titled ‘CP mourns demise of eminent DPO partly read, “The late SP, who was an eminent communicator, hailed from Ndele in Emohua L.G.A. of Rivers State.
“He was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on November 1, 1989, and served in various capacities including Rivers State Command PPRO for many years.
“He was the DPO, Elimgbu, before his death. The Command wishes to convey her heartfelt condolences to the Omoni family, friends, and all the good people of Rivers state.
Meanwhile, the state APC spokesman, Darlington Nwauju, in a statement, said the party received news of Omoni’s death with shock, saying he operated an open door policy.
The statement read, “The deceased officer who died in active service as the DPO Elimgbu division of the Command, operated an open door policy in his time as image maker and facilitated a human rights desk for the State Command.
“We pray that his legacy of interventions that instigated an alternate dispute mechanism regime at the State Command shall not be swept away.
“Our party, being a law-abiding political platform, shall always cooperate with the State Command and relevant security agencies to ensure that we witness credible and violence-free elections by 2023.
“The APC in Rivers State prays the good Lord consoles all those he left behind and grant the Command the fortitude to bear this great loss.”
Omoni who celebrated his birthday last weekend, was the longest serving spokesman of the state police command.
