The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man, Ogaga Kome, for allegedly killing an 11-year-old boy, Hossanna Merritt, in the state.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Kome allegedly shot Merrit to death while testing a locally-made gun at his residence in Ozoro community.
After perpetrating the crime on Monday, August 22, 2022, the 26-year-old went into hiding but members of the community alerted the Ozoro police station to the incident.
It was learnt that the police command in the state, after being notified of the development, declared Kome wanted and launched a manhunt for him.
The police were said to have also solicited information from members of the public that would aid the arrest of the fleeing suspect.
In a follow-up reaction to the incident on Thursday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, said Kome’s relative handed him over to the police, adding that investigation into the case was ongoing.
He said, “On August 30, 2022, around 1.05pm, a well-meaning individual, who is also a relative of the suspect, brought him to the station.
“Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Ari Ali, has expressed appreciation for the efforts of residents in the state for their support in combating crime.
“The CP also advised members of the public to monitor their environment, and report any suspicious persons or movements to the police.”
