The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Delta State has deployed its special forces to forestall the spate of insecurity and activities of criminals across the state in the months heralding the Yuletide, popularly referred to as ‘Ember Months’.
The State Commandant of the NSCDC, while speaking through the Public Relations Officer, Dsc Emeka Okwechime, said it had become imperative for the Corps to ignite the forces in the 25 Local Government Areas of Delta, being a proactive security agency of the Federal Government saddled with the responsibilities of protecting lives and property with a complementary duty of maintaining and sustaining peace and order.
He explained that the special forces were drafted from the Department of Intelligence and Investigation, Agro-Rangers Squad, Crisis and Disaster Management Dept, The Snipper Combatants (Female Squad), the Armed Squad, the Counter Terrorism Unit CTU, SWAT among others.
According to him, the steps were designed to effectively checkmate all forms of criminality and allow for free movement of persons, goods and services before, during and after the Yuletide.
Consequently, he said, the troops have undergone rigorous operational drills, training and retraining to effectively tackle and respond to security challenges ranging from communal crisis, anti-human trafficking, cultism, farmers herders clash, economic sabotage and vandalism, among other sundry crimes.
He explained that this intervention calls for critical stakeholders to support the NSCDC and other security agencies to stem the tide of crime and criminality across the 25 Local Government Areas of the state, particularly as the Yuletide approaches.
He, therefore, urged members of the public not to panic at sighting the movement of NSCDC troops and equipment, rather, they are obliged to say something when they see something.
While urging members of the public to see security as everybody’s business, he enjoined Deltans to continue to support the NSCDC and other security agencies with credible information on the activities of suspected criminals in their vicinities.
