A former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has been at the top echelons of society for many decades. A three-term head of state and president, he is indeed one man that is constantly sought after.
Over the years, in and out office, Obasanjo has often contributed to national discourse, and doesn’t waste any time in criticised any leader he feels is not living up to expectations. Because of the respect he enjoys in international circles, many politicians often seek his blessings for their political careers. As campaigns towards the 2023 general elections will soon commence, practically all the major presidential candidates across party lines have visited the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Peter Obi of Labour Party; Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress; Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party; and Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso have all visited Obasanjo, fondle called Obj.
However, beyond politics, Obasanjo has also been attending quite a number of social events lately.
Last Sunday, the former military general was at the fifteenth anniversary of the Love of Christ Generation Church, Victoria Island, Lagos, which is led by the popular evangelist, Esther Ajayi’. He was the preacher for the day. At the church service, several guests jostled to catch a glimpse of Obj and also greet him.
He was also at the recent installation of a businesswoman, Folashade Omotade, as the Mojibade of Egbaland, by the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo. One of the highlights of the event was when Obasanjo danced Omotade. He also did a dancing duet with veteran juju musician, Sunny Ade, who performed at the event.
The former president was also at a special convocation in honour of business mogul, Muhammadu Indimi, at the University of Maiduguri.
Prior to that, Obasanjo joined socialite and fashion designer, Abah Folawiyo, as she celebrated her 80th birthday. Dressed in a white agbada (flowing robe), and topped with a cap that had different colours, Obasanjo joined Folawiyo to cut her birthday cake.
Obj also attended an event to mark the installation of socialite, Erelu Abiola Dosumu, as the Yeye Oba Odua (Queen Mother of the House of Oduduwa) by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi. At the occasion, Obasanjo was dressed in an ‘off-white’ and brown agbada and cap. While taking pictures, he was flanked by the first ladies of Ekiti and Kwara states, Bisi Fayemi, and Olufolake Abdulrazaq, respectively.
When billionaire businessman and chairman of Sifax Group, Taiwo Afolabi, celebrated his 60th birthday in June, Obasanjo was also on hand to dish out ‘party vibes’. Afolabi also seized the occasion to have a house warming party in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, and it had in attendance socialites from far and wide. Trust Obasanjo, he was not found wanting. He was dressed in a white agbada, which he complemented with a blue cap.
