Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, has urged the Labour Party to massively mobilize the Nigerian workers and youth groups to stand a chance of wrestling power from the more established workers.
He told the party that the people they are competing with have illegally acquired humongous amounts of money, making it necessary for them to devise a distinctive means of mobilizing people.
Falana was speaking at a retreat organised by the Labour Party in Abuja on Monday
“If you want to mobilise the Nigerian people you must go beyond visiting those who destroy Nigeria. from today, your candidates must go to the offices of all the trade unions in Nigeria, the offices of women organisations, youth organisations, because the people you are competing with have acquired albeit illegally unbelievable sums of money and what do they want to do? They want to bribe voters because they have weaponized poverty, therefore, you cannot operate on the same terrain,” he said.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria admonished the labour unions to go all out in mobilizing the Nigerians in the streets and turn them to the structures the other parties said they don’t have.
“The presidents of NLC and TUC have made the point that you have the largest structures in Nigeria. Please go out from today to revitalise those structures so that these guys can know that it can never be business as usual in Nigeria again.
“Time is on our side because Nigerians have lost faith in them and they are now running from pillar to post. When they say you have no structure, tell them the people are the structures of power, the people are the centres of power, power is lying on the streets in Nigeria once again.
“The man in Aso Rock says I am tired, I want to go home. Those who want to take over power from him are also tired, therefore power is lying on the streets of Nigeria, do you want to pick it?”
