A yet-to-be-identified woman and two children were on Tuesday feared killed during a boat accident in the Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the victims alongside other passengers were on their way to the Sarkin Kudu Market when the tragedy struck.
Our correspondent learnt that the boat engine went off, forcing the boat to hit the bank of the river and broke into pieces.
The passengers were said to have fallen into the water and emergency responders including local divers who entered the water rescued some of the victims.
However, the lifeless corpses of a woman and two children were recovered during the rescue operation.
Reacting to the development, the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Ibi Local Government, Bala Bako, confirmed the incident, said life jackets would be provided to safeguard passengers, adding that a passenger manifest would also be introduced to identify passengers.
He also said while some of the passengers were rescued, a woman and two children were still missing.
“It is an unfortunate development. Going forward, life jackets will be provided for use in every boat to safeguard people’s life.
“We will also introduce a passenger manifest to know the people crossing the River in case of any eventuality,” he said.
