The families of the 23 remaining victims of the AK9 train attack say they’ve not had access to the victims since the arrest of Kaduna State-based negotiator, Tukur Mamu, by operatives of the Department of State Services.
Analysis by our correspondent also revealed that the remaining victims had spent 189 days in custody.
Sunday PUNCH reports that no fewer than 60 passengers were abducted when terrorists attacked the AK9 train conveying passengers from Abuja to Kaduna.
Most of the freed passengers reportedly paid N100m ransom which was allegedly facilitated by Mamu.
Mamu was arrested last week by the DSS over his alleged links with terrorists.
Speaking with our correspondent in Abuja, the chairperson of the families of the remaining victims in Abuja, Aminu Uthman, noted that the families have been kept in the dark about the well-being of the victims since the arrest of Mamu.
Uthman said, “You are aware of what happened to the person who is in charge of the negotiations. So, nobody even knows what is happening.
“But we believe that the government is doing something and we, as the family members, are on the issue”
Sunday PUNCH reports that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), in Abuja, met with representatives of victims of the Kaduna train abduction, assuring them that the Federal Government was doing everything within its powers to ensure the safe return of the remaining captives.
