An unidentified man was shot dead by gunmen along the Okpolu-Rumuigbo axis of Obio/Akpor local government area of Rivers State on Sunday evening.
Though details of the incident could not be immediately ascertained as of the time of filing this report, an eyewitness said two men had intercepted the victim, during which an argument ensued along the road.
The eyewitness who did not want his name mentioned due to the sensitive nature of the incident said though he did not hear what the argument was about, but said they were talking in loud voices before one of them brought out a gun and shot the other.
He further said the incident occurred along a road named after a new generation church.
He stated that the incident caused panic in the area, as people scampered for safety on hearing the gunshot.
“We were just seated. Next thing we saw two men stopped this man. They started shouting and quarrelling. The next thing was gunshot and the man fell. The other two men entered a vehicle and zoomed off.
“Later they said the police came to carry the man’s corpse,” he added.
When contacted, spokesperson of the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said she was yet to get report of the incident, but promised to give our reporter a feedback.
Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.
