Six governors from the northeastern zone of the country, under the aegis of the North-East Governors’ Forum, has pleaded to the Federal Government for urgent intervention in areas affected by flooding.
The NEGF bemoaned the ravaging effect of flooding in some parts of the zone, which wreaked havoc on homes and property.
This was contained in a communique issued at the end of the forums’ seventh conference by its chairman, the Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum.
It emphasised its commitment to strengthening the level playing ground for a united purpose that will be at an advantage of the zone.
Consequently, it stated that the amount of rainfall in the zone has brought to a halt livelihood in villages concerned, perhaps, soliciting prompt assistance from the federal government.
It pointed out the significance of exploring unutilised resources within the zone towards nurturing whole into commercial and trade fairs activities considering the need to arouse the interest of foreign investors.
Therefore it called on the North-east Council of Chambers of Commerce to return to life the North-East Joint Trade Fair and commodity markets to encourage economic activities.
However, it expressed gratitude for the increasing value of the cooperation, collaboration, and cordial relationship between the six governors of the zone.
