The Rivers State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the killers of a yet-to-be-identified man along Okpolu-Rumuigbo road, in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
PUNCH Metro gathered from eyewitnesses that the victim was in the area when two men intercepted him along the road.
During the interception, an argument ensued between the victim and the two men.
An eyewitness, who did not want his name mentioned for security reasons, said the argument degenerated, adding that one of the two men brought out a gun and allegedly shot the victim to death.
The eyewitness said the incident caused panic as people scampered to safety after hearing the gunshot.
He noted that the suspects fled the crime scene after perpetrating the crime.
The eyewitness said, “We were just seated and next thing we saw two men stopped this man. They started shouting and quarrelling. The next thing was a gunshot and the man fell. The other two men entered a vehicle and zoomed off. Later, they said the police came to carry the man’s corpse.”
Contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, who confirmed the incident, said a manhunt had been launched for the fleeing suspects.
She said, “Yes, we (police) are aware. We have commenced investigation to know the cause of the incident and to apprehend those behind the dastardly act.”
