A Non-Governmental Organization, under the auspices of LEGASI, has warned Nigerians not to allow politicians to mortgage their future with just a mudu of rice, sachet of salt, maggi, or N500.
The Founder of the organization Mrs Kaltumi Abdul’azeez stated this on Saturday in an exclusive interview with The PUNCH while commenting on the importance of 2022 International Peace Day tagged “End Racism, Build Peace in Kaduna.
She appealed to all Nigerians not to allow themselves to be used as vehicles or tools of division and destruction during and after the forthcoming general elections.
Katulmi called on all political actors, especially candidates to eschew unguarded utterances capable of threatening the peace being enjoyed in the state ahead of the 2023 general elections.
“Politicians must drive issue-based campaign rather than throwing tantrums capable of jeopardising the peace process that was already existing amongst Nigerians.
“We can make very bold statements that will change the trajectory of this country without resorting to violence and that can only be through the power of our votes,” She said.
She maintained that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must be seen to be truly independent in the discharge of its constitutional mandates devoid of any external pressure, stressing the need for an inclusion inclusion of all strata of the society in the governance process in the country with particular focus on women, youth and people living with disabilities.
On his part, the Kaduna State Coordinator, Peace and Security Network, Mr Eric John described the International Peace Day as important to all Nigerians.
He said one of the core mandate of the youths who constitute the highest voting population was for them to contribute meaningful to the development of the country.
“Government at all levels must prioritise youth inclusion in implanting their programs.
