The Ondo State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party has knocked the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, for not allowing the opposition party use the government field in Ore Odigbo Local Government Area of the state, for a political activity.
The party alleged that the governor ordered the police to prevent their political activity from being held on the government’s facility.
According to a statement issued by the state Publicity Secretary for the PDP, Mr. Kennedy Peretei, on Monday, the governor took the action because he knows the All Progressives Congress would lose the 2023 elections, hence the refusal to allow the use of the venue.
The PDP said it planned to have a ceremony to welcome some defectors from the APC into the party, among whom is the immediate former Commissioner for Water Resources, Mrs. Yetunde Adeyanju, who just resigned from the Akeredolu’s cabinet, but the police prevented the activity from being held, saying the governor allegedly gave the order .
The part of the statement read, “We condemn in strong terms the directive of the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, to deny PDP the use of government field, Ore, to receive Mrs. Yetunde Adeyanju into the PDP.
“As preparations were on top gear for the event, the Area Commander of the police arrived to disperse leaders and party supporters as directed from ‘above.’
“There is no doubt Akeredolu is jittery that his party, APC, having performed very woefully will be disgraced at the 2023 general elections. This level of high handedness and abuse of public office will not save Akeredolu and his party from failure.
“Mrs. Yetunde Adeyanju, resigned from Akeredolu’s government two months ago. The governor cannot stand his former commissioner joining the PDP just 48 hours before the commencement of campaigns.
“Our party advises Akeredolu not to allow his fears about failure becloud his reasoning, as this will consume him. Government field, Ore does not belong to him but the people of Ondo State.”
