Hundreds of members of support groups of Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Saturday held sensitisation rally across major streets of Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.
They urged the people of the state to support the movement to rescue Nigeria from its present worrisome state.
The train of youths and LP members, clad in white shirts, which took off at the Ori Apata in the Adebayo area of the capital city, moved through the Fajuyi Park to Basiri area from where it headed to the Post Office area and Ijigbo before returning to the popular Fajuyi Park where it addressed a gathering of supporters.
LP National Chairman, Julius Abure, who said the rally was to celebrate the party’s presidential candidate and sensitisation exercise by the support groups for the flagbearer, said, “We are going round to tell Ekiti people that Obi is the only one that can do it better”.
Abure, represented by LP National Financial Secretary, Olugbenga Daramola, said, “We are tired of old hands. We need new, tested and trusted hands. We need a young person who understands our problems, who can solve the problems of Nigeria, that person is Obi. That is what we are telling the people”.
Ekiti LP Chairman, Odunayo Okunade, said the attendance at the rally and the reaction of Ekiti people showed the populace’ acceptability of LP and readiness to embrace solution to the country’s problem which voting for Obi in 2023 represented.
Okunade said, “LP is the way to go. Other parties had given Nigerians promises and they had failed Nigerians. Our message to Ekiti people and Nigerians is that with Obi, the country’s injury will soon be healed”.
The State Coordinator, Coalition for Peter Obi, Rev. Olugbenga Daini, who said that representatives of no fewer than 16 support groups under the coalition were in attendance, added, “This is to sensitise Ekiti people that a wind of change is blowing and everybody should embrace it.
“We should embrace what God has given us, God has given us Peter Obi. We have tried PDP, we have tried APC, it is time for us to try LP, which God has given us now. Obi has a track record, he has the energy and the capacity to deliver.
“He was Anambra Governor for eight years, we saw what he did. That shows us that we need him. He will move Nigeria from a consumer nation to a producing nation,” Daini said.
