…Advises youth to shun thuggery
The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has advised youths to shun thuggery in the forthcoming general elections as the political campaign commenced.
The monarch gave the advice on Saturday when he led a prayer session for the country as part of activities organised by the Emirate to commemorate the 62nd Independence anniversary of the country.
He warned them (the youth) not to allow themselves to be used by politicians for their selfish interests while urging them to avoid acts capable of creating violence in the state in particular and the country at large.
“I want to use this opportunity to call on the youth to shun thuggery and avoid acts that are capable of igniting violence during the election,” the monarch said.
The Emir further enjoined politicians in the country to desist from making unguarded comments and hate speeches during the electioneering campaigns.
He said the decision to organise the prayer sessions was aimed at seeking God’s intervention to ensure peaceful elections in the country in 2023.
“The prayer session is organised to pray for the country as it marks its 62nd Independence anniversary to ensure the successful conduct of 2023 general elections,” Bayero said.
The Emir expressed hope that politicians would utilise the advice being given to them by elders and various clerics to shun any act that would heat up the polity.
The prayer session was attended by members of the Emirate Council as well as other well-wishers from different parts of the state.
