Ebonyi Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr Ifeanyi Odii, on Independence Day congratulated the people of Ebonyi on the 26th anniversary of the creation of the state.
The governorship hopeful, in a statement signed by his media assistant, Personal Stanley, and made available to The PUNCH felicitated with Nigerians and ‘Ebonyians.’
Odii, who has been enmeshed in a legal case after his party’s primary, was recently declared as the governorship candidate of the PDP in Ebonyi State by the Supreme Court.
The apex court had in a unanimous decision by a five-man panel of justices on September 14 vacated the judgement of the Court of Appeal that ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise Senator Joseph Obinna Ogba as the standard bearer of the party for the 2023 governorship election.
The panel which was headed by Justice Amina Augie, held that the appeal marked SC/CV/ 939/2022, which Odii lodged before the apex court, was meritorious and deserved to succeed.
While stating that Nigeria has every reason to celebrate its nationhood at 62, Odii on Saturday stated that he is equally looking forward to making a positive change in the development of his home state.
The statement read in parts “The independence anniversary of our beloved country calls for celebration considering the enormous efforts that our founding fathers devoted towards the freedom of the country from the country of colonial masters.
“At 62, Nigeria has every reason to celebrate. We have made tremendous progress in infrastructural development, growth in businesses and most importantly the independent contribution of the citizens of Nigerians to a united Nigeria state deserved to be mentioned and commended.”
Odii saluted Ebonyians and assured them that his administration will aggressively tackle the issues of unemployment and provide avenues for employment, stressing that a new Ebonyi State is on the way.
He said, “A new Ebonyi State that the citizens will be proud of will be the focus of my administration. We will bring an end to communal clashes and work to bring lasting peace in all the villages in the state because without peace they will be no progress.”
“Our administration will address squarely issues leading to communal clashes because that will endanger our plans of industrializing the state and will can’t afford to lose focus because of clashes.”
“Knowing that what leads to insecurity is unemployment, we will create employment by utilizing available resources in the state into wealth creation.”
“Proudly, I congratulate Ebonyians at 26. It is a new dawn and we have to get prepared for the task of rebuilding our dear state.”
