This is following the devastating effects of flood in some parts of the state, which had also submerged communities and displaced many residents in various communities.
It was gathered that the closure would affect no fewer than 12 out of the 21 local government areas of the state that had been designated as flood-prone areas by the authorities.
Making the development known in a public announcement on Tuesday was Mrs Chioma Unachukwu, a personal aide of the state’s Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh.
According to her, the action is in compliance with the already published 2021/2022 Special Academic Calendar for riverine and flood-prone areas in the state.
She said, “I am directed to convey the Honourable Commissioner’s approval for the closure of all schools in riverine and flood prone areas in the state with immediate effect in compliance with the already published 2021/2022 Special Academic Calendar for riverine and flood-prone areas in the state.”
Areas such as Anyamelum, Anambra East, Anambra West and Ogbaru local government areas, among others, have been described as the worst hit areas by the authorities concerned.
