No fewer than 80 persons have been arrested by the men of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, for violating the motorcycle restriction order of the state government.
The government last month had placed a ban on the movement of motorcycles between 6:00pm and 6:00am everyday, while night club activities were also banned beyond midnight as part of efforts to ensure security of lives in the state.
The State Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, who confirmed the arrest on Wednesday, said the development was a move to rid the state of criminally minded persons and groups.
According to him, the men of the Corps were strategically placed to effect the arrest of the violators. He also explained that the ban came up following reports that commercial motorcyclists, also known as okada riders, were the main causes of criminal activities in the state.
He said, “We are going back by 7pm today, all our men will be on all major junctions and inner land.
“No movement of Okada again; that way, anybody seen with Okada at night will be assumed as a criminal and will be handled as such. There shall be no night clubbing after midnight as it is compulsory for every night clubber to go home at night.”
However, he said the only motorcyclists that would be allowed to move at that restriction time were the law enforcement agents or people on essential services, who must carry certified identification cards.
It was gathered that the motorcycles of the culprits had been impounded by the government.
