An appeal has been made by members of the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP to all party faithful who have expressed divergent views and opinions to sheathe their swords and unite to ensure the party’s victory in the forthcoming general elections.
The members reiterated their support for the decision of the 97th NEC meeting, which aimed to portray the Party as a united family going forward.
The appeal was made by the Chairman of the National Ex-officials Forum of the party, Yunana Iliya, representing the North-Central zone, at a press conference on Thursday, held at the National Headquarters of the party in Abuja.
The forum represents 36 elected leaders of the party from the country’s six geo-political zones.
Chief Iliya implored all leaders and members with one issue or the other to take advantage of the internal differences resolution mechanism provided by the Party’s Constitution.
He said, “We have resolved to appeal to all party members, especially those who have expressed contrary views and opinions, to please sheathe their swords and join hands in ensuring the victory of our party in the forthcoming general elections.
“The National Ex-officials Forum reiterates our support for the resolution of the 97th NEC meeting, the purpose of which was to present the Party as one united family going forward.
“We implore all our leaders and members who have one issue or the other to avail them of internal differences resolution mechanism as provided in our Party Constitution.”
The chairman noted, “As our great party approaches the 2023 general elections, we have been confronted with very disturbing and destabilizing scenarios playing out in our Party against the plea by our presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, that admonished us to be very careful in our utterances, our posturing and body language in presenting to the public the internal issues of our Party.”
Other members of the forum include Mr Nicholas Sheliza for North-East, Chief Chinemeram Madu for South-East, David Kolawole for South-West, Ibrahim Jigawa for North-West, and Chief Patrick Agbe for South-South.
