The Lagos State Police Command has said it has plans in place to secure the lives and property of citizens during the planned five-million-man rally to be held today (Sunday).
It noted that it would make sure the rally did not result in violence as it would ensure that every Lagos resident was protected “before, during, and after” the solidarity rally.
The Chairman of Lagos State Parks and Garages Management Committee, Mr Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, had announced the proposed solidarity rally for the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, and the Lagos Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, scheduled to hold today.
The chairman had earlier postponed the scheduled rally citing logistics problems. In a statement via Twitter, Mc Oluomo noted that the rally would start at 9am at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, and terminate at Bolade, Oshodi.
“Tinubu-Shettima and the second term of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu/Hamzat solidarity walk still holds on Sunday (today) (sic). This is to inform our esteemed members, supporters, and lovers that our solidarity walk for the actualisation of Tinubu-Shettima presidential ambition and the second term of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu/Hamzat will still be held as earlier scheduled (sic).
“We implore you all to disregard the earlier postponement notice. Scheduled as follows: Date: Sunday, October 9, 2022. Take-off point: Teslim Balogun Stadium. Termination point: Bolade Oshodi. Time: 9 am. Sorry once again for any inconvenience (sic),” Mc Oluomo said.
In a similar development, another statement issued on Friday evening explained the reason for the earlier postponement.
The statement read, “This is going to be a mega rally, we are going to shut Lagos down for Asiwaju Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu. The reason why we postponed the rally initially, was because of some logistics and situations that were supposed to be put into proper perspectives which we have sorted out.’’
