The Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Funminiyi Afuye, has said that the first ‘back to back’ transition of power in Ekiti State from the outgoing All Progressives Congress-led government to another one was a testimony of the people’s confidence in the Dr Kayode Fayemi’s administration.
Fayemi, an APC governor, will be ‘pulled out’ on October 15 while Oyebanji, also of the APC, will be inaugurated as governor of Ekiti State on October 16.
Afuye, who said the outgoing governor focused on agenda and achieved immensely for the benefit of Ekiti, said, “The orientation of the people is directed towards responsible governance which the Fayemi government has been able to provide for the people.”
The Speaker in an interview with Sunday PUNCH, while assessing the 26 years of the state created on October 1, 1996, said, “Ekiti State has been a potpourri of opinions, but at least, the opinions are in favour of good governance under Fayemi.
“In Ekiti, it has been up and down, but I can isolate the government of Fayemi. It is focused on agenda and it delivered on the agenda. The first term was eight-point agenda and five pillars of governance for the second term – that is how to govern.
“Under the government of Fayemi, education has improved, agriculture has improved, the economy has improved, there is infrastructure development, you are aware that the government is about to inaugurate an airport in Ekiti State, roads have been constructed/rehabilitated.”
