Striker Victor Osimhen is in line to make his return for Napoli in their Champions League group stage match against Eredivisie champions Ajax on Wednesday (today), PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The 23-year-old has been sidelined since picking up an injury in Partenopei’s 4-1 win against Liverpool Sept 9.
The Nigeria international has missed Napoli’s last six games as a result of the setback.
However, Osimhen was involved in full training with his teammates on Monday, and is set to be named in the squad for the Ajax game.
“Osimhen did the whole session as a group. He has had therapies and tomorrow (Tuesday) he will carry out diagnostic tests,” reads a statement on the club’s official website.
The striker has scored two goals in five appearances across all competitions for Luciano Spalletti’s Napoli this season.
The performances of his teammates in his absence might put some pressure on the Nigerian to impress once he gets into the game as he is expected to start from the bench.
“Sources close to the player assure us: Osimhen is fine and is already in 100 per cent form, and tomorrow (today) he will be on the bench for the fourth round of the Champions League.
“He knows well that he will have to work hard, his attacking colleagues are doing very well, but Victor remains a very important solution for Luciano Spalletti,” the statement from CalcioNapoli read.
According to Radio Marte, Giacomo Raspadori will lead the line at the start of the game, while Osimhen is expected to take over from the bench.
Spaletti plans to use this game to allow Osimhen to put precious minutes in his legs for the next matches that will see Napoli engage Bologna and Roma.
