The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Oyo State, Teslim Folarin, started his campaign ahead of the 2023 election with visits to major stakeholders in the state.
Folarin visited the Christian Association of Nigeria and promised that his government would not marginalise any segment if he wins the poll.
Apart from that he also visited some traditional rulers and the Muslim community to solicit their support for his ambition.
Folarin had earlier in a statement issued to flag off his campaign promised not to engage in mudslinging but to focus on issues.
He said, “Our campaign objective is not to engage in mudslinging or by invoking abrasive and petty sentiments; rather, our campaign will focus squarely on proffering solutions to the enormous downward trend standing in the way of our state’s prosperity, in-spite of our potential.
“Ours is a government that shall be driven by Information Technology at all levels of governance.
“We commend the patience and perseverance of all citizens and residents of the state, in the face of this current maladministration, you shall be rewarded with excellent leadership that has been trusted and tested when the people-centered government of the All Progressives Congress, emerges in the coming governorship election with your support.”
The Coordinator, the Christian Association of Nigeria in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State, Rev Titus Morakinyo, while speaking in an interview with journalists on Wednesday during Folarin and other APC chieftains’ visit to CAN leadership, said the programmes of the party would determine if the electorate would vote for them or not.
The CAN leadership meeting with Folarin was held at the Vineyard of Grace Evangelical Church and the clerics prayed for him after the meeting.
The CAN chairman in the local government said, “What we need is competent and reliable governance for everything to fall in place, in terms of education, security, and social amenities if there is good governance, the country will be better.
“If they are willing to serve the people, the people are ready to serve them. CAN does not have anything against them except for the Muslim-Muslim ticket.
“They ought to have informed the people, carry the Christians along when they were making that decision if they have known that they will come back, If you recognize some important stakeholders, carry them along when there is a crucial issue or decision is made.
“Once the party knows that is how it will be, they should have made consultations before now.”
He advised the party to orient the citizens, there has to be a strategy that will give room for networking sayings good governance will give the citizens peace of mind.
Teslim assured the association of good governance with a promise not to disappoint Christians and other segments of society.
He said Christians were critical stakeholders in the politics of the state and promised that they would be adequately represented if he wins.
