The Lagos State Government has advised horticulturists in the state to adopt technological innovations that are environmentally eco-friendly in their activities.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Planning and Environmental Monitoring Agency, Daisi Oso, gave this advice, according to a statement on Wednesday, during a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the agency in collaboration with the Alliance of Horticulturists in Lekki.
He said, “The programme with the theme: ‘Integrating the informal sector in the delivery of LASPEMA mandate on setbacks beautification,’ was aimed at encouraging an eco-friendly environment and also supporting the activities of horticulturists occupying the state’s setbacks and incidental open spaces without compromising the physical planning regulations of the state.
“The agency will encourage innovative technologies for horticultural development as done with the vulcanizers who now have solar-powered equipment machines that are environmentally friendly. LASPEMA is the only agency with statutory responsibility to regulate, monitor and designate setbacks for use in line with the state’s regional, developmental and action plans.”
The Founder of Alliance of Horticulturists in Lagos, Lauretta Asemota, said, “There is the need to integrate all stakeholders with the state government policies and programmes because this approach will help bridge the gap between the government and other stakeholders thereby allowing improved trust between the government and its citizens.”
