Over 4,800 volunteers raised by a socio-cultural group, Kiriji Heritage Defenders, have expressed readiness to work with the conventional security agencies to provide security at border communities across the South-West region.
This was disclosed by the group’s Director General, Dr Ademola Ekundayo, during an interview with Saturday PUNCH.
According to him, the newly installed Ajagunla of Yorubaland, Mr. Mukaila Lamidi, was also working towards raising more volunteers for the group, saying necessary legal documentation was being done, after which the volunteers would proceed on training.
He said the volunteers would provide intelligence for the conventional security agents and pay special attention to border communities to prevent invasion by terrorist groups.
“We are volunteers and the mission is to ensure safety of communities in the South-West region. So far, we have raised over 4,800 volunteers and after necessary legal documentation is completed, they will proceed on training camp.
“Kiriji Heritage Defenders will work with the police and other conventional security agencies paying close attention to border communities across the region. They are ready to work with other stakeholders to keep the region safe,” he concluded.
