One the protesters recently released from Kirikiri Correctional Centre after two years of detention, Sodiq Sulaimon, has been hospitalised.
Sulaimon was among the scores of protesters, who were arrested and being prosecuted for charges arising as a result of their participation in the October 2020 nationwide protest against police brutality, especially against activities of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
Speaking with our correspondent from hospital bed in Kwara on Sunday, Sulaimon, whose case was struck out and released on October 5, alongside Ismail Muftau, said he had been hospitalised since Monday.
He noted that he was told his body system also needed to be flushed out.
“It’s due to all the unhealthy foods we’ve been eating in the place (prison),” he managed to tell The PUNCH.
Speaking on his ordeal – arrests and detention, he said, “everything is in God’s hands.”
Below are the pictures of Sulaimon taking drip in the hospital:
The PUNCH reported that scores of protesters are still detained in Lagos and Oyo prisons in connection with their participation in the #EndSARS protest.
In Oyo State, about nine are being prosecuted for alleged murder, and stealing of police rifles, among other charges.
This is as it makes it two years in October 2022 that the country experienced the massive #EndSARS youth protest.
Some groups and civil society organisations are planning a a two-year memorial for October 20, especially in reference to the shooting at Lekki Tollgate by the Nigerian military, where fatalities had been recorded.
