A women’s support group of the All Progressives Congress under the aegis of Progressive Sisters’ Network, has challenged candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party and New Nigerian Peoples Party to borrow a leaf from the vision of Tinubu-Shettima joint ticket, saying it presents them a renewed hope of equity.
This was contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday evening by the group’s National Coordinator, Rinsola Abiola.
Rinsola, a gender advocate and daughter of late Chief MKO Abiola, hinged their belief on the establishment of its sister-to-sister campaign, which was launched at the presidential villa last Tuesday with the encouragement and presence of APC flagbearer, Bola Tinubu.
She said, “I make bold to say that there is no leader in Nigeria’s political space who can lay claim to empowering and mentoring as many women as Asiwaju has.
“And I throw a challenge to other presidential candidates and their supporters to tell us what they have done for women.”
The young politician further stated that Tinubu, in addition to prioritising women’s empowerment, has also mentored many women politically especially in Lagos state.
Abiola also said that she was not surprised by Tinubu’s choice of running mate, saying Senator Kashim Shettima has also been known to pioneer gender mainstreaming during his tenure as governor of Borno state where he appointed four female commissioners and birthed several women empowerment projects.
She said, “Our message is simple: the Tinubu/Shettima ticket presents the greatest hope of equity for Nigerian women, and this assertion is backed by the public service track records of both men.”
“Our foremost aim at this moment is to contribute our quota to mobilising women’s votes for our father, leader and presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima; and this is what has led to the conceptualization of the Sister-to-Sister Campaign.”
The PUNCH reported last week that the APC Women Presidential Campaign Council had commenced a door-to-door electioneering strategy to accelerate its reach to every nook and cranny of the country ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
The announcement came barely 24 hours after the inauguration of appointees into the women campaign council at the presidential villa.
