Omonia Nicosia goalkeeper Francis Uzoho described Manchester United shot-stopper David de Gea as a ‘legend’ after the Spaniard made his 500th appearance for the Reds against Newcastle United on Sunday.
De Gea, who joined United from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid 11 years ago, reached an impressive milestone against the Magpies, becoming just the second keeper in the Reds’ history to make 500 appearances or more for the club.
The Spaniard was presented with an engraved plate ahead of kick-off by former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
After the game, De Gea took to Twitter to reflect on a memorable afternoon against Newcastle, where he kept a clean sheet.
Unsurprisingly, a plethora of messages flooded in for De Gea, all of which congratulated him on achieving such an impressive tally of appearances for the Reds.
Among them was one from Omonia ace Uzoho, who produced an outstanding display in the Cypriot’s slender 1-0 defeat to the Reds at Old Trafford in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Uzoho replied the Spaniard with a one-worded message, “Legend,” accompanied with a love heart emoji.
Filling in for the injured Fabiano, the 23-year-old Nigeria international, who is a United fan, had the game of his life, producing a string of outstanding saves, right up until Scott McTominay finally found a way past him in the 93rd minute.
