In celebration of Black History Month 2022, Amazon UK has released a list of books it termed ‘great reads by black authors’ to celebrate the occasion.
Five out of the 12 books selected were either written by Nigerians or authors with Nigerian heritage.
Amazon said the list was brought together by Amazon Books Editors in collaboration with BEN, Amazon’s Black Employee Network to build reading lists for Black History Month this October.
BEN is an internal group of employees in Amazon that champions diversity and ensures the perspectives of people of Black African and Caribbean descent are heard in the company.
The five books by Nigerian authors are; Settlers: Journeys Through the Food, Faith and Culture of Black African London by Jimi Famurewa, a British-Nigerian jounalist; Manorism (a debut collection of poems) by Yomi Sode; Someday, Maybe by Onyi Nwabineli, also a debut of literary fiction by the Nigerian-British author.

Others include; Bodé Aboderin’s parenting book for fathers and fathers-to-be, Fatherhood by Papa B and finally Wahala by Nikki May. Wahala before it was published had been announced that it was being adapted for a major BBC drama, it also made various ‘2022 Books to Watch’ lists, and was announced as a Best Fiction Book of the Year So Far by The Times.
