The Lekki Estates Residents and Stakeholders Association in conjunction with Eti-Osa Local Government have announced that there will be traffic diversion at Victoria Garden City intersection of Lekki-Epe Expressway, to aid reconstruction of the defunct intersection
In a notice made available to The PUNCH on Saturday, the diversion is expected to commence on Monday, October 24, 2022 and will last for four weeks.
The traffic diversion would mean that all movements on the three straight lanes will now be on the lane inwards Ajah.
It was gathered that the decision for the diversion was announced in a meeting after extensive deliberations with stakeholders about the status of the ongoing road/bridge construction, to also get their concurrence on the reconstruction of the intersection opposite VGC.
Adding that the planned exercise is expected to be carried out with “minimal inconvenience to commuters, if all parties cooperate with the project team and behave responsibly around the construction site.”
The statement read, “The overhead bridge is designed to have its landing point around the former intersection opposite VGC. The next phase of the project is to reconstruct the portion of road within that area.
“The sequence is as follows; Create a traffic diversion of the three straight lanes to the lanes meant for the bridge landing. All movements will now be on the lane inwards Ajah; remove all the asphalt surfacing and fill/raise the level of the road and lastly, reconstruct the now raised road.
“After extensive deliberation, including physical inspection, it was agreed as follows; the flood water arising from the raised level of the road will be channeled into the newly constructed drainage network; the road reconstruction phase will last for about four weeks. Traffic management plan during the period will ensure orderliness while mitigating inconvenience to road users; Hi-Tech Traffic Management team will be on ground to ensure free flow of traffic. A special taskforce on traffic will also be constituted with personnel from all the security and traffic management as well as from the Lagos State Parks & Garages Agency.
“The traffic diversion will commence from 7.00am on Monday, October 24, 2022. All major stakeholders will be on ground to participate in a dry-run, ahead of full implementation in the evening of same day. Subsequently, periodic review with stakeholders will happen on need basis
“Lastly, awareness and advocacy are very important. Stakeholders are therefore enjoined to sensitise residents and other road users, while the message will also be taken to traditional and online media platforms. Road signages will also be deployed around the project site and vicinity.
“In conclusion, the planned exercise can be achieved with minimal inconvenience to commuters, if all parties cooperate with the project team and behave responsibly around the construction site. We therefore appeal to all stakeholders to sensitize their residents, families and friends about this project and the need for all of us to give it our maximum cooperation.”
The project is being handled by Hi-Tech Construction Limited in concert with the leadership of Eti-Osa East LCDA and Eti-Osa Local Government.
