For his aggressiveness and power, Nigeria international, Victor Osimhen, has been rated high by Italian pundit Matteo Bonnetti, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Bonnetti made this assessment during a show on CBS Sports, where he revealed that he would pick Super Eagles striker over Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic and Lazio talisman Ciro Immobile.
Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille two years ago for a record fee of €81m with ads-on.
Since arriving at Napoli, he has been at his very best despite struggling with injuries.
He dislocated his shoulder in November 2020 while playing for Nigeria against Sierra Leone, then hit the back of his head during a Serie A match against Atalanta last year and was briefly knocked unconscious, ruled out for three games, and had a head clash with Inter defender Milan Skriniar in November 2021.
Despite a season marred by injuries, the 23-year-old managed to score 14 Serie A goals in 27 appearances for the Partenopeans.
Having started the 2022/23 season in fine form, where he already scored two goals in his first two games, Osimhen picked up another injury in Napoli’s 4-1 win against Liverpool in their UEFA Champions League Group A opening game September 7, which ruled him out for six weeks.
Since returning to action two weeks ago against Ajax in the Champions League, the Nigerian has been unstoppable in front of goal.
Osimhen has scored three goals in his last three games for Napoli, including a vital winner against Roma last Sunday.
Speaking on a show on CBS Sports Golazo, Bonetti confidently said he would pick Osimhen in his team over Vlahovic and Immobile.
“It is easy to go with Ciro Immobile because of the number of goals he has scored, or Dusan Vlahovic because of his goals at Fiorentina.
“However, I choose Victor Osimhen because of the fear he puts in the defence. If you play a high line, he will get in behind.
“He has not had a full season, he has gotten injured in every season he has been at Napoli. If he can stay healthy for an entire season, he is a 25-goal per-season striker. But it is just more of the danger that he puts into the defence,” he said.
This season, Vlahovic and Immobile have scored two goals more than Osimhen, albeit with more games.
