The platform confirmed the issue via its twitter Public Relations account, @InstagramComms.
“We’re aware that some of you are having issues accessing your Instagram account. We’re looking into it and apologize for the inconvenience. #instagramdown,” the tweet read.
Many users shared an error message which stated, “We suspended your account on October 31, 2022.”
Several also complained of losing followers in large numbers during the downtime.
The PUNCH earlier reported that WhatsApp, a fellow Meta owned social medium also suffered a downtime on Tuesday.
Users were unable to send and receive messages for a period of two hours, after which service was restored.
