The association also stressed the need for teachers to be honored based on hard work and dedication.
Speaking during an award ceremony organised by the association in Abuja, the chairperson of NAPPS, Abuja Municipal Area Council, Habiba Jibrin, noted that recognition of hard work by teachers promote continuous engagement and validation.
In a statement made available to our correspondent on Tuesday, the chairperson said, “This celebration commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which sets benchmarks regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers, and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions.
“The need to award star teachers was arrived at, at the last executive meeting after assumption of office this year.As educators, recognition for hard work and dedication is very important as it encourages continuous engagement and validation.”
Speaking further, Jibril noted that a total of 111 teachers were awarded across private schools in the area council.
She added, “A total of 111 teachers were selected and there were certain criteria that were put in place for the selection.
“I also charge those who are yet to be registered by teacher’s registration Council to get registered so as to give your profession the professionalism that it deserves according to Government policy.
“Teachers should also be professional in their dealings with parents for the attitude of teachers will either make or mar the school they work for”.
