Ali-Maishanu, the regional Coordinator of a Non-Governmental Organisation, Global Pan-Africanism Network Nigeria, who is on bail, was detained and prosecuted by the police for threatening to organise a protest against NAPTIP.
Our correspondent reports that Ali-Maishanu allegedly threatened NAPTIP with protest for refusing to treat with justice a case of a 27-year-old woman, Hauwa’u Musa, popularly known as ‘Ladidi,’ in the state, who was taken from the state since she was underaged to Adamawa, married off when she became an adult without the consent of her mother.
Speaking during the court proceedings, Prosecution Counsel Muhammad Kumo asked the chief magistrate for more time for the police to complete investigation, stressing that authorities were yet to conclude their processes.
“Investigation is still going on,” he said.
On his part, Defence Counsel Ibrahim Nuhu, who was represented by Muhammad Faruq, urged for timeframe that would give both parties opportunity to prove the case.
He said, “It should be a long date to enable the police conclude the investigation.”
Chief Magistrate Maida, having given both counsels time to agree on a suitable time to enable the police conclude the case under investigation, ratified December 7, 2022 as next hearing date.
