The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Ado Ibrahim, and three others for allegedly kidnapping and killing a five-year-old boy after demanding a ransom of N20m from his father.
Some youths were said to have razed the family houses of the suspects.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, in a statement on Wednesday, said the victim’s father reported on Friday, October 28, 2022, around 5pm that his son, Hamza, was kidnapped and a ransom of N20m was demanded by the abductors.
“The ransom was said to have been negotiated to N5m, but the state Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Lawal, raised a team of Operation Restore Peace, led by the Divisional Police Officer, Doguwa division, CSP Bala Shu’aibu, to arrest the suspects.
“Sustained efforts coupled with intelligence-led follow-ups, led to the arrest of the principal suspect, Ado Ibrahim, 29, and three others. The principal suspect was arrested at his hideout,” the PPRO said.
The police spokesman said during interrogation, Ibrahim confessed to have single-handedly kidnapped the victim on October 27 around 7pm by luring him to a nearby bush, where he strangled him.
He stated further that the body was later discovered by a team of police detectives and taken to Doguwa General Hospital, where a doctor confirmed him dead.
