The crisis rocking the leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, took a fresh twist on Tuesday as Edozie Njoku, hitherto a factional chairman of the party, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, to recognise him as the authentic national chairman of the party.
Njoku stated this at a news conference in Abuja in reaction to a letter written by a retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Mary Peter-Odili, to clarify the apex court’s judgment on the crisis.
He noted that the letter from the retired justice stating that Victor Oye’s name was erroneously written and mentioned as the chairman of the party had vindicated him of the accusation that he forged the judgment of the apex court.
Njoku also appealed to Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State and other members of the party to intervene and unite the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.
He said, “I am begging everybody involved, particularly Victor Oye, to sheath his sword, and the game is up.
“I beg the governor of Anambra State to rise to the occasion. If we do not rise to the occasion, we are going to run into serious problems in the forthcoming elections, including all the forthcoming elections in Anambra State.
“A Supreme Court judgment cannot be shoved aside, unless we want to play with the 2023 general elections.
“If we take that risk, we are going to jeopardise our chances in that election because it is going to be an unlawful exclusion.”
