The Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State has said it will graduate 13 First Class graduates during its 20th convocation.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, said this in a statement made available to The PUNCH on Tuesday, to announce activities marking the 20th convocation of the university.
It stated that a total of 691 graduates who had successfully completed their Bachelor’s and post-graduate degrees programmes would be awarded certificates at the convocation.
Ezemonye said, ‘‘Out of the 557 graduates, 13 students bagged First Class, 248 bagged Second Class Upper, 215 got Second Class Lower while 81 were unclassified in the Department of Pharmacy. Out of the 134 postgraduate students, 40 bagged Doctor of Philosophy degrees, 82 got Masters and 12 completed their PGD programme.
Ezemony stated that the school recently introduced six new undergraduate courses and five post-graduate courses making the university now run 55 undergraduate courses and 34 postgraduate courses all fully accredited by the Nigerian Universities Commission and various professional bodies.
He said, “The university has zero tolerance for any infraction by the laws of the land. Cultism and drug abuses have no place in Igbinedion University.
“The matriculation oath is presented to the students, spelling out the dos and don’ts and what is very important is that the parents, guardians, and the students are there at the matriculation so they understand the principles of the discipline of the university from day one.”
Ezemonye said the school also got a partnership deal with universities in Ukraine to continue the training of their Nigerian medical students who had been displaced by the Russian – Ukrainian war, saying the proprietor of the University, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion’s fee rebate had produced not less than 15 PhDs and 20 Msc graduates among the university staff.
He added that two Nigerians, Pastor Chris Oyakilomhe, and Princess Rosula Mku-Atu, would be awarded honourary degrees during the convocation.
