The Pan Niger Delta Forum has expressed the need for the forensic audit report of the Niger Delta Development Commission to be subjected to further interrogation to reveal the credibility of the report.
The forum maintained that some persons only sat in a hotel and conjured inaccurate figures and hearsay to make up a shoddy report that was presented to the Federal Government.
Recall that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) had in 2019 ordered the forensic audit of the operations of the commission from 2001 to 2019.
The decision followed the persistent criticism of the operations of the NDDC.
While the exercise began early in 2021, the report was received by the President through the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, by the then Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, in September of the same year.
However, more than a year after the submission of the forensic audit report, the document had not been released or made public.
But the PANDEF National Publicity Secretary of PANDEF, Ken Robinson, while reacting to the matter in an interview with Saturday PUNCH, said those involved in the audit of the NDDC knew nothing about the commission.
He explained that though the forensic audit was a well-thought idea by the President, it had been used as a tool against perceived political enemies and to silence some strong voices in the Niger Delta region.
