The retired workers of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, under the aegis of the Railway Senior Citizens, Kano chapter, have petitioned the National Human Rights Commission over a plan by the management of the corporation and the North Eastern and Northern Railway District Managers to sell their monetised quarters while the case is still pending at the Appeal Court in Lagos.
In the petition dated November 10, 2022 and signed by the Chairman and Assistant General Secretary of the Nigeria Railway Senior Citizens, Kano chapter, Tasiu A. Gumel and Kabiru Kuta, respectively, it was alleged that the plan was being orchestrated in connivance with the president generals of their two house unions.
A copy of the petition, which was made available to The PUNCH in Kano on Tuesday, recalled that the group had raised a similar alarm over the plan on March 18, 2022, but nothing was done to address the situation.
“We are therefore compelled to write this petition to the NHRC so that it will come to our rescue from the evil plan of the management of RDM and NRC district managers to respect the rule of law and refrain from selling the property pending the outcome of the ongoing case at the Court of Appeal in Lagos.
“The RDM Northeastern district, Aliyu Mainasara, is no longer SSA PG, and neither is he the RDM Northern district, so why is he interested in sending us packing?” the petitioner said.
